SHAH ALAM, June 30 – Former UMNO Youth Leader Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has expressed that the cooperation between UMNO and DAP in the Unity Government remains uneasy. His statement comes in response to former DAP Publicity Secretary Tony Pua, who referred to Barisan Nasional (BN) as a “corrupt alliance,” possibly reflecting the sentiments of DAP supporters. Khairy pointed out that the reaction at the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) towards the cooperation with DAP has been lukewarm.

He suggests that Tony Pua’s statement may indeed reflect the true sentiments held by DAP supporters. Consequently, the collaboration between UMNO and DAP is still regarded as uncomfortable, and the future of their relationship remains uncertain. Khairy made these comments during the Keluar Sekejap Podcast Program, in which he engaged in a conversation with former UMNO Youth Vice Leader Shahril Sufian Hamdan on Wednesday.

Previously, Tony Pua, who also served as a Member of Parliament for Damansara, labeled Barisan Nasional (BN), which is currently part of the Unity Government alongside Pakatan Harapan (PH), as a “corrupt alliance.” This statement garnered various reactions, including a response from Anthony Loke, who believed that Tony should not have made offensive statements against any of the main coalition partners in the Unity Government. Loke insisted that Tony’s statements were made in his individual capacity.

UMNO Youth described Tony’s statement as rude and urged DAP to take appropriate action against him. Meanwhile, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki emphasized that Tony should not be nominated in the upcoming PRN.
