KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 – In response to the incident involving Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. While deliberating on the appropriate course of action, the Prime Minister commended the immigration department for providing valuable and positive feedback thus far.
“We need to identify certain individuals or small groups who have yet to embrace the necessary changes and have faced several accusations. Rest assured, initial discussions will be held during this Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting,” announced Anwar during his visit to KLIA on Sunday. Anwar highlighted that, overall, the majority of immigration officers are performing their duties diligently.
However, he acknowledged the existence of potential issues and pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to rectify any shortcomings. In the event of any mistakes, appropriate actions will be taken. During his surprise visit to the airport, the Prime Minister inspected the operations of Customs and Immigration, and confirmed that the situation was under control. While minor damages to customs were identified, Anwar assured that necessary repairs would be made.
The incident occurred prior to the departure of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Queen, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who were returning home from Saudi Arabia after completing the Hajj pilgrimage. The Prime Minister’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation demonstrates the government’s determination to address issues promptly and ensure the smooth functioning of immigration procedures at KLIA.
By taking immediate action, the government aims to uphold transparency and maintain the highest standards of professionalism within the immigration department. The investigation’s findings will serve as the basis for implementing necessary reforms and improving the overall efficiency of KLIA’s immigration operations. The government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the same rules and regulations to maintain fairness and public trust.
