KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 – Yayasan PETRONAS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), is celebrating a significant milestone as its upskilling program, Program Duta Guru (PDG), experiences its highest enrolment rate to date. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in empowering secondary school teachers specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. The recent PDG national induction (Kitaran Pembelajaran 1.2) welcomed a remarkable cohort of approximately 456 teachers.

These passionate educators comprise the 4th Cohort of the transformative 10-year PDG initiative, which seeks to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge in STEM education. Expressing her excitement, Shariah Nelly Francis, CEO of Yayasan PETRONAS, said, We are thrilled to witness such an extraordinary response to PDG. The dedication and commitment demonstrated by educators showcase their eagerness to enhance their teaching abilities and provide students with an engaging and transformative learning experience.

We are proud to support them as they embark on their journey to become future Duta Guru. Recognizing the critical need to increase STEM enrollment among students nationwide, Yayasan PETRONAS emphasizes the importance of equipping teachers with the tools and expertise to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers, who will contribute solutions to the various challenges faced by nations. Over 400 teachers will commence a comprehensive 24-month program, focusing on integrated STEM and the Engineering Design Process (EDP).

This immersive journey encompasses training, coaching, and peer-learning elements, enabling participants to develop innovative teaching strategies aimed at enhancing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) among their students. Currently, PDG boasts a total enrollment of 730 participants across 141 districts, with 253 successful Duta Guru graduates. By 2030, PDG aims to upskill 4,500 teachers nationwide in higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), enabling them to serve as role models in delivering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects to students.

This record-breaking enrolment in PDG not only demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of teachers but also highlights the dedication of Yayasan PETRONAS and its partners in transforming the educational landscape and fostering a culture of excellence in STEM education across the nation. With the collective efforts of all stakeholders, the program aims to shape a brighter future for Malaysia by nurturing a generation of well-rounded and future-ready individuals.
