
BAYAN LEPAS, July 11 – Intel Malaysia, in collaboration with Penang Science Cluster (PSC), officially launched the Intel® Geek Kids program today, marking the beginning of a nationwide roadshow consisting of several workshops. The program aims to nurture an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among underserved primary school students in Malaysia. Building upon the success of a well-received virtual pilot program conducted in 2022, which engaged over 800 students from more than 130 schools across Malaysia.
The Intel® Geek Kids program enters its first formal iteration with a series of eight in-person workshops to be conducted nationwide. Over the course of two months, these workshops will reach more than 700 primary school students between the ages of 9 and 12. AK Chong, Managing Director of Intel Malaysia and Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations, expressed the significance of bringing this program to children in underserved communities who have limited access to STEM programs. Chong stated, “Technology-based skills are permeating all fields.
And we firmly believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to acquire that knowledge. Through this initiative, we look forward to opening young minds to pursue more possibilities for their future.” The workshops offered through the Intel® Geek Kids program will provide an exciting mix of activities, focusing on problem-solving and technical skills. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare for an innovation project showcase with the guidance of mentors, leading up to an innovation competition scheduled for October 2023.
