
PUTRAJAYA, July 14 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had a productive virtual meeting today with Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Inc. The meeting was attended by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, and YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy. During the meeting, Prime Minister Anwar warmly welcomed Elon Musk’s interest in investing in Malaysia and his willingness to visit the country.
The government also extended congratulations and support for the upcoming opening of Tesla’s Headquarters, Service Center, and Brand Experience Center in Selangor later this year. Malaysia remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions as early as 2050. The country has developed comprehensive plans and a competitive ecosystem to support the clean energy industry, including electric mobility. The discussion also touched upon SpaceX’s potential involvement in the Starlink satellite service.
This collaboration holds the promise of significantly improving internet access, particularly in remote areas where minimal physical infrastructure and land are required to enhance global connectivity. The initiative is expected to enhance the capabilities and well-being of the people, particularly in the areas of education, agricultural technology, and income generation. Prime Minister Anwar expressed his enthusiasm for future collaborations and the exploration of investment opportunities in various sectors, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, and space technology.
