
GOMBAK, July 29 – The nomination centers for the Hulu Kelang, Sungai Tua, and Gombak Setia State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats became the focus of top gun (key leaders) from various political parties in the country, showing their support for their respective heavyweight candidates on Saturday. The Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, arrived at the nomination center for the three DUN seats at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Pusu here, around 9:10 a.m., on the nomination day for the Selangor State Elections (PRN).
The Chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, and UMNO Vice President, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, joined the procession starting from Sungai Chinchin Bridge at approximately 8:15 a.m. The entourage accompanied the PH candidate, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari from PKR, who is contesting to defend the Sungai Tua DUN seat, which he has held since 2008.
The procession also included the Hulu Kelang DUN candidate, who is also the Political Secretary to the Selangor Menteri Besar, Juwairiya Zulkifli (PKR), and the Gombak Setia DUN candidate, who is also the Chairman of UMNO Selangor Liaison Body, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin from Barisan Nasional (BN), contesting the Gombak Setia seat. Additionally, the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Arau Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim, were also present at the center to show their support for the coalition’s candidate.
Over 5,000 supporters participated in the Gombak people’s procession led by Muhyiddin in support of the PN candidate, Selangor Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), who is contesting in the Hulu Kelang DUN seat. Also in the procession were Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin from Pas, nominated for the Sungai Tua DUN seat, and Muhammad Hilman Idham from Bersatu, defending the Gombak Setia DUN seat.
The atmosphere outside the center was vibrant, with supporters and machinery from various parties chanting words of encouragement for their respective candidates. Until 9:50 a.m., the controlled nomination process proceeded without any provocation, with all parties adhering to the regulations set by the Election Commission (SPR). Earlier, the SPR announced that polling day for the PRN in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu would be held simultaneously on August 12, with candidate nominations on July 29 and early voting on August 8.
