BATU CAVES, September 1 – The 5-Dimensional (5D) Cinemas and “Industry On Campus” (IOC) have been inaugurated at Selayang Community College (KKSY) today as part of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution’s initiatives in exploring the use of Extended Reality (XR). This technology combines Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) into one, driving the future of the entertainment world, especially the Digital Gaming Industry. The 5D cinema, known as XR Alive, is a manifestation of groundbreaking exploration into cutting-edge technology, encompassing the 5D Cinema technology called “Extended Reality” (XR) Broadcast.
This advancement enables TVET institutions like KKSY and students in the Diploma Games Art program to keep pace with the latest technology trends and industry skill requirements upon graduation. The XR Alive exposure initiative is known as the Flagship i-Entertainment program, which aims to explore the use of 5D digital gaming technology and empower the Industry 4.0 revolution within polytechnics and community colleges through the establishment of this cinema. Moreover, in realizing the ability of community college students to create 5D digital gaming technology, collaboration with the industry on campus plays a significant role at KKSY.
The Industry on Campus (IOC) program, implemented since 2018, is a proactive step towards producing “industry-ready” graduates with high skills. It also narrows the gap between trained graduates and the skilled and competent workforce required by the industry. At KKSY, the collaboration with Kelembai Studios, led by Mr. Abdul Hanan Ismail since 2018, demonstrates the relevance of Industry on Campus (IOC) in providing students with insights into the realities of the industry. Mr. Muhamad Rumzi bin Mamat, Deputy Director-General (Planning), in his speech at the XR Alive and Industry On Campus (IOC) Inauguration Ceremony at Selayang Community College, stated that close cooperation with industries, such as the KKSY Industry on Campus collaboration with Kelembai Studios, will help the institution evolve in line with global technological developments.
This ensures that the programs offered at the community college remain relevant and aligned with industry needs. The results of these efforts can be shared not only with students but also experienced by the community, in line with the reputation of community colleges as centers for lifelong learning. Surely, such success can lead our country to change in line with technological advancements,” he added. The operation of Industry On Campus and Flagship i-Entertainment at KKSY is evidence of the hard work and dedication aimed at providing the best education for students to develop skills and experience after their studies.
In addition to KKSY, there are ten holistic Flagship programs, each focused on a specific industrial sector to enable the application of Industry 4.0 technology and produce Future-Ready graduates. This initiative involves five other satellite campuses: (i) Metropolitan Kuala Lumpur Polytechnic – Game Programming, (ii) Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic – Video & Film, (iii) Teluk Intan Community College – 3D Modeling and Animation, (iv) Kuala Langat Community College – 2D Animation; and (v) Paya Besar Community College – Advertising & VR.
