BUKIT MERTAJAM, September 2 – The first meeting to review the entire civil service and public sector salary schemes, will also include discussions on graduate salaries, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stated that Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, has set up a committee to discuss salary adjustments next week, which will be chaired by the Prime Minister. We will take all these matters into consideration.
Generally, the wages and salaries of civil servants are low, including police and military personnel, as well as non-pensionable military personnel. Insha-ALLAH, as the economy allows, we will gradually increase these salaries. Traditionally, this committee should meet once every 10 years, but now it has not met in 12 years,” he told reporters here today when asked about his views on the issue of graduate salaries, which are currently considered to have declined to minimum wage levels. He was speaking after delivering the opening speech at the 16th Malaysia National Economic Conference.
