KUALA LUMPUR, September 11 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) with the theme ‘Malaysia Madani: Sustainable, Prosperous, High-Income’ during a Special Meeting of the Parliament on Monday. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, entered the Parliament at 9:45 a.m., accompanied by his wife, Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and the Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli.

The presentation of the MTR 12MP in front of the Speaker of the Parliament, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, was also broadcast live on the Malaysian Parliament’s YouTube channel and several television channels. The MTR 12MP, with 17 major shifts as its main drivers through 71 main strategies and initiatives, is the government’s solid commitment to meet the reform demands expected by the people while embodying the spirit of Malaysia Madani. It will serve as the fundamental document to drive and elevate the country’s development while uplifting and empowering the people.

The preparation of the MTR 12MP to assess the achievements of the targets for the first two years (2021-2022) and the direction for 2023-2025 includes a review of targets, strategies, initiatives, development programs, and projects aimed at inclusive and sustainable economic development. The MTR 12MP focuses on two aspects: evaluation and review, including achievement, gap analysis, improvement proposals, and direction. The 12MP, with an allocation of RM400 billion presented on September 27, 2021, is the complementary phase of the five-year national development plan (2021-2025) towards achieving the status of a developed and inclusive nation.

On September 7, Rafizi stated that the MTR 12MP should be evaluated at 100 percent because the assumptions or plans made before Covid-19 are no longer applicable, and this mid-term review can be considered as a new plan for the country. On June 19, the Special Meeting of the Prime Minister with Cabinet Members and Chief Secretaries of Ministries on the MTR 12MP agreed that all parties should move as one team towards accelerating the implementation of reforms and planned economic initiatives.

According to the parliamentary website’s schedule, the Special Meeting of the Parliament will continue with a debate session by Members of Parliament for three days starting tomorrow, followed by responses from relevant ministries on September 18 and 19.
