As concerns mount over blood shortages in Malaysia’s blood banks, it is crucial to note that the blood donation rate in Malaysia saw a decline, dropping from 22.8 donors per 1,000 people in 2019 to a range of 19.7 to 22.5 donors per 1,000 population in 2020, 2021, and 2022. This decline is primarily attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as acknowledged by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
