KUALA LUMPUR, September 19 – Today’s Dewan Rakyat session will focus on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s explanation regarding the issue of the Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNAA) for UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was facing 47 charges related to criminal breach of trust, corruption, and money laundering involving funds from Yayasan Akalbudi.

This was announced by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who informed that Anwar is expected to address the Dewan Rakyat at 2:30 pm. Political analysts believe that Anwar’s clarification in the Dewan Rakyat regarding the recent DNAA decision involving Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is crucial. This action is important not only to clarify Ahmad Zahid’s case but also as evidence of the transparency of the Unity Government and its commitment to upholding the nation’s leadership.

Anwar might view it from the perspective of the head of government responsible for explaining such cases, especially since Ahmad Zahid is a member of the government administration and holds a prominent position in the country. However, there is an opinion that the DNAA explanation for Ahmad Zahid does not necessarily require intervention from the Dewan Rakyat. Nevertheless, if the Prime Minister agrees, it can be conducted. The rationale behind this perspective is that many similar cases involving politicians exist, so why is Ahmad Zahid’s case receiving special attention?

It appears as if the government is being dragged into opposition tactics, and if it continues, they risk losing focus on building a better, developed nation in the future. Nonetheless, this issue has garnered public attention, including foreign news agencies such as Bloomberg, which have posed questions about the court’s decision to Anwar. Therefore, the Prime Minister’s decision to answer and provide an explanation regarding the DNAA decision for Ahmad Zahid is a prudent step.
