GELUGOR, May 6 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called upon implementing agencies, particularly ministries, to prioritize the training of young individuals in artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure Malaysia remains competitive in this field. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Northern Zone Madani Rakyat 2024 program in George Town, Anwar emphasized the importance of enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs, ensuring accessibility for all, including students from religious schools.

Anwar underscored the significance of AI and TVET-related training, especially in light of Microsoft’s recent RM10.5 billion investment in Malaysia, which necessitates a substantial workforce. He urged collaboration between federal and state governments to ensure comprehensive training, preventing disparities between urban and rural areas. Additionally, Anwar urged the Education Ministry to foster interest in STEM subjects among school students, aligning with efforts to strengthen AI and TVET sectors in the country.

He emphasized the need for immediate action to compete with neighboring nations like Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, highlighting the importance of integrating Islamic principles into AI systems to preserve Malaysian values. Furthermore, Anwar stressed the importance of streamlining public service efficiency to attract investments, urging a speedier approval process akin to countries like Vietnam.
