GEORGE TOWN, May 24 – Nor Zamri Latiff, the assemblyman for Sungai Bakap, passed away today at 1.38 pm at Seberang Jaya Hospital. He was 56 years old. The PAS assemblyman had been in the intensive care unit after experiencing severe abdominal pain late last month. Funeral rites for Nor Zamri will be held at 6 pm at Masjid Sungai Acheh, followed by his burial at the same location.
As the Nibong Tebal PAS chief, Nor Zamri won the Sungai Bakap seat in the state election last August with a majority of 1,563 votes. His passing will necessitate a by-election for the state seat, marking the second by-election in Malaysia this year, following the Kuala Kubu Baru by-election on May 11.
