GEORGE TOWN, Sept 25 – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng visited to the flood area here on Friday at Jalan Paya Terubong which had occurred on September 23, 2015. Also present were YB Chow Kon Yeow, YB WonHon Wai, YB Ramkarpal Singh and also YB Yeoh Soon Hin.

MBPP was also visited the following the floods which occurred in Paya Terubong on September 14, 2015. In the same time the earthwork stopping notice dismissed also been introduced to developers of Geo Valley Sdn. Bhd. and Eco Terrace Development Sdn. Bhd. Meanwhile, PLB Land Sdn. Bhd. were also imposed the notice of requiring of abatement of nuisance on the date.

On behalf of developers was also asked to implement mitigation measures which are necessary to ensure that problems do not occur repeatedly in the years to come. In the same time, the inspection that made by the Engineering Department of  MBPP which every day to monitor the work being carried out by mitigation third-party developers.

A meeting was arranged on 28 September 2015, to be chaired by Mr. Yeoh Soon Hin to get feedback from developers on the actions that have been / are being / will be taken to address the problem of floods. The investigation will be on 22 September 2015 which also shows that the mitigation work is being continued by the three parties previously was perfect.

PLB Land Sdn. Bhd. issued ooze from the drain and provide a new reservoir. Besides that, the Eco Terrace Development Sdn. Bhd, being the depth tangkungan and the Geo Valley is close to geotectile exposed slopes. In the same time, it is anticipated mitigation works could be completed within two weeks.

MBPP in the satatement said the investigation on 23 September 2015 show that the flood was caused by a retention pond from the development PLB Land Sdn. Bhd. and Eco Terrace Development Sdn. Bhd. which can not cope with the flow of surface water due to heavy rains.

It said the work of deepening and enlarging the reservoir and provide a new reservoir is being carried out by both sides in the site but not yet complete. Eco Terrace Development Sdn. Bhd. also trying to get a permit for work upgrading the drainage system of the Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR).

In the additional, it said that the upgrading of the works will be involve construction ‘crossing’ trench across Jalan Paya Terubong believed to be one of the causes water to overflow into the top of the road during heavy rains Pay Terubong on 23 September 2015.

Several areas in Penang were inundated by flash floods and mudflow after more than five hours of rain from 4am on Wednesday. Among the areas affected were Jalan Bayan Lepas to Teluk Kumbar, Batu Maung, Bukit Gambir, Bayan Lepas, Paya Terubong, Air Itam and several roads in George Town.
