JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 25 – Around 60,000 civil servants will get the basic salary of RM1,200 as the tabled in the 2016 Budget which announced on Friday, said Datuk Azih Muda, the president of CUEPACS, the umbrella union for civil servants. He said the adjustment has been long awaited by this group, especially those living in urban areas and those who have just started work, including youths. He also added that CUEPACS was very satisfied with the salary adjustment.

In the same time, Azih was also speaking to reporters after officiating the 13th Biennial Delegates Conference of the Peninsular Malaysia Education Ministry Laboratory Employers Union here on Saturday. He said the new minimum salary would hopefully help civil servants tackle the rising cost of living, especially in the cities.

Azih also said CUEPACS was satisfied with the government’s decision to upgrade 252 schemes of service, fixing the monthly minimum pension at RM950, and giving an additional annual salary increment. He said that the appointment of ‘Contract of Services’ officers who had served for at least 15 years was necessary and this group had a right to that opportunity. He added that the new minimum salary adjustment would also change the annual salary increment of civil servants and their pensions.
