GEORGE TOWN, Aug 23 – Penang police busted a drug processing laboratory and seized several types of drugs worth RM245,300 with the arrest ofa man and his Vietnamese wife in Perai on Monday. Penang State police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye hold a press conference today said a team from the Narcotics Investigation Department nabbed the couple; a 31-year-old man and his 27-year-old wife, at a parking lot near a flat on 4.55pm.

“The team found 4.5kg of heroin packed in 10 plastic packets in their car. After the arrest, the man lead us to  his home in Perai, which turned out to be their drug processing lab, later in the day. More drugs were seized and in total, the team confiscated 9.8kg of drugs, with a street value of RM245,300. We also managed to confiscate cash more than RM7,175 and two foreign-made cars were also seized,” Chuah said.

In additional, Chuah said the couple has been remanded for six days until Aug 28 for further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking dangerous drugs where those convicted face the mandatory death penalty. — PN
