BUTTERWORTH, March 19 – DAP condemned the actions of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is still playing on racial sentiments by scaring the Malays, saying that the Malays will lose power soon. DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke said his party was deeply saddened by Tun Mahathir’s statement which did not reflect his status as a former Prime Minister twice, including when he was with Pakatan Harapan (PH) before, apart from being known as a statesman.

According to him, Tun Mahathir should play his role to unify the people but he sees the statement he issued earlier as breaking the unity among the various races in our country. So we hope that he can play his role more constructively than every day issuing statements that are seen as not only unhelpful but inflaming racial sentiments. If he loves this country, he should use his influence to help the country, to attract more investment for our country and to attract a lot of interest in developing our country.

“Don’t play on fabricated racial sentiments… there is no fact or situation where Malays lose power, the Prime Minister is a Malay… most of the ministers are Malays, all institutions are still held by Malays, the Chief Secretary is also a Malay.. .So where is it said that the Malays have lost power?,” he said at a press conference here, on Sunday. Earlier, Anthony Loke attended the Penang DAP Annual Convention 2023 held at the Butterworth Arena here. Also present were National DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng and Penang DAP Chairman Chow Kon Yeow.
