GEORGE TOWN, June 4 – The Squash Racquets Association of Penang (SRAP) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the first leg of the 2023 National Junior Circuit held at the Nicol David International Squash Centre. The tournament, sanctioned by the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM), showcased the nation’s top junior squash players in an exhilarating display of talent and sportsmanship. From May 24th to 28th, the Nicol David International Squash Centre was filled with excitement as junior athletes from across the country competed in the under-15, under-17, and under-19 categories.

The event not only provided a platform for fierce competition but also served as an opportunity for the squash community to thrive, with family and friends showing unwavering support for the participants. Whitney Isabelle Wilson, representing Bukit Jalil Sports School, emerged victorious in the Girls Under-19 category, defeating Sabah’s Doyce Lee in an intense final. Meanwhile, Selangor’s Tay Jun Qian claimed the Boys Under-19 title, narrowly edging out Nickhileswar Moganasundharam. These young athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament.

The winners in each category were as follows: Dakshayani Thangaraja (Kuala Lumpur) in Girls Under-15, Erwin Kros Christopher (Selangor) in Boys Under-15, Puteri Rania Zahirah (Bukit Jalil Sports School/Kuala Lumpur) in Girls Under-17, Hashvind Kugan (Kuala Lumpur) in Boys Under-17, Whitney Isabelle Wilson (Bukit Jalil Sports School/Penang) in Girls Under-19, and Tay Jun Qian (Selangor) in Boys Under-19. SRAP extends heartfelt congratulations to all the winners, as well as to every participant who exhibited their utmost dedication and skill throughout the tournament.

Building on this success, the next squash event to take place at the Nicol David International Squash Centre will be the 19th PBA Penang (Malaysia) Junior Open from June 20th to 25th, 2023. With the vibrant squash scene in Penang and the unwavering support of the squash community, the sport continues to flourish, nurturing young talent and paving the way for a promising future in Malaysian squash.
