SEREMBAN, August 27 – A thorough study on the salary and retirement scheme for civil servants is expected to take six to eight months before being presented to the cabinet meeting. Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, stated that the Perpaduan Government is committed to increasing the income of civil servants and will conduct a comprehensive review of the scheme, which will be discussed in the upcoming cabinet meeting chaired by him.

“The government will conduct a comprehensive study, including teachers’ salaries, which may take six to eight months to finalize everything. “Subsequently, I will present it to the Cabinet for approval, subject to an increase in the country’s revenue,” he said while addressing the Negeri Sembilan State-level Teachers’ Appreciation Ceremony at the Seremban City Council Hall on Thursday. Present at the event were the Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek.

Anwar mentioned that the country’s revenue projection is better than initially anticipated due to increased tax payments. Meanwhile, while awaiting the completion of the scheme’s report, the government has announced a special contribution to civil servants and retirees, which will be distributed within two weeks. “I can announce RM1,000, but I don’t want to add more debt because the country’s debt is already too high, and many wasteful allocations have been cut,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar announced that the government will provide a special appreciation allowance of RM300 to civil servants in grade 56 and below and RM200 to government retirees, benefiting 1.3 million civil servants, including contract appointees, and over a million retirees.
