PUTRAJAYA, September 10 – DAP will assist UMNO in defending the Pelangai State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat by mobilizing its machinery. DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this decision was made following the hard-fought efforts of the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery in trying to secure victories for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in the recent Pulai Parliamentary and Simpang Jeram State Assembly by-elections on Saturday.
“It is clear to see that the Barisan Nasional machinery campaigned earnestly to secure votes in these areas, and for our party, these victories are very encouraging. Since the Pelangai State Assembly is under the Bentong Parliamentary constituency, represented by a DAP representative, Young Syefura Othman, our party will certainly mobilize our machinery to focus on this area,” he said during a media conference at the DAP Annual Conference 2023 held at the Marriott Hotel.
On Saturday, PH successfully retained the Pulai Parliamentary seat when its candidate, Suhaizan Kayat, won comfortably with a majority of 18,641 votes. Meanwhile, Nazri Abdul Rahman won the Simpang Jeram State Assembly seat with a majority of 3,514 votes. The DAP Annual Conference is the first event since the formation of the Unity Government after the 15th General Election (PRU15) last year. A total of 1,530 branch representatives from across the country, involving 3,868 delegates, attended the conference. This participation marked an increase compared to last year’s DAP congress.
