KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 – The Unity Secretariat convened tonight to strategize and reinforce the machinery and operational mechanisms of parties within the unity government ahead of the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baru by-election scheduled for next month. Chaired by PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the meeting focused on enhancing coordination and readiness among coalition members. Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed satisfaction with the discussions, emphasizing the unity and cohesion among participating parties.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining an “intact, compact, and functioning” understanding within the coalition. The outcomes of this meeting will be presented at the Unity Government Consultative Council Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also the President of PKR. Key figures from various parties attended the meeting, including PKR Information Chief Fahmi Fadzil, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Amanah Women’s Wing chief Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, and DAP deputy secretary-general Liew Chin Tong.

The Kuala Kubu Baru by-election was triggered by the passing of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong of DAP, on March 21. The Election Commission has set May 11 as the polling day, with nomination and early voting scheduled for April 27 and May 7, respectively.
