Explosive Thrown At Ramasamy’s Service Centre

BUTTERWORTH, April 12 – An explosive item, believed to be molotov cocktail, was flung at the service centre of Perai assemblyman Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who is also Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, early today. The explosion caused a small fire at the five-foot way and grille door of the service centre located in a two-storey building.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief, ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said they received a report on the incident from a worker at the service centre at about 3 am. He said the item thrown exploded in front of the service centre, leaving black marks on the five-foot way and grille door.

Rusli said police would obtain a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recording of the location to detect those responsible for the mischief. He urged the public not to make any speculation on the incident and that police would be conducting a thorough investigation. Members of the public with information on the incident were also urged to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

“I heard an explosion before seeing a small fire at the entrance grille door on the ground floor. I informed a friend about the incident and he lodged a report at the Chai Leng Park police station. We also told Ramasamy about the incident,” a manager of the service centre, R.Subramaniam, 60, said.
