NEW YORK, September 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting and interaction with 15 leading American companies listed in the Fortune 500, including Airbnb, Amazon, Amazon Web Services, Boeing, ConocoPhillips, and Kimberly-Clark at the Harvard Club in New York, USA, on Thursday.

“This opportunity was fully utilized to share the Madani Economy Framework supported by the New Industry Master Plan 2030, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), which will serve as a guide in achieving the country’s development goals. “I also appreciate the positive feedback and constructive inputs shared by these companies,” he said via a Facebook post. Anwar, who is currently in New York to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), said that the United States is Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner since 2015.

In terms of investment in the manufacturing sector, Malaysia received foreign direct investment (FDI) from the United States for the period of January to June 2023, with a total value of RM1.84 billion (US$395 million), and this investment has created 1,558 job opportunities. “May Malaysia be able to attract more new investments from American giants,” he said.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that the role of councils and business chambers such as the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) as intermediaries between the government and the business community is a driving force for the successful implementation of government initiatives that ultimately benefit the people.
