KUALA LUMPUR, January 12 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken proactive steps to address the issue of dropped calls or sudden disconnections in mobile phone calls. The commission conducted a Cellular Service Quality Test (Voice Calls) to assess the network coverage provided by telecommunications service providers in Malaysia. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Deputy Teo Nie Ching participated in the test, traveling from the Parliament Building to the Ministry of Communications in Putrajaya.

The objective was to personally observe and assess the quality of mobile phone calls, taking note of any issues. The test utilized special Nemo Walker Air testing equipment operated by trained MCMC officers, employing two sets for repetitive calls and continuous calls. Accompanying Fahmi on the one-hour bus ride were MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and senior management representatives from major telecommunication companies, including CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile (TM Tech), and Yes (YTL Communication).

Approximately 30 media practitioners were also briefed during a separate bus ride. The results of the test will be analyzed and announced by Fahmi at a later press conference, providing insights into the current state of mobile network quality in Malaysia and addressing concerns raised by users.
